The memorial carries the words “Our glorious dead 1914-1918 duty nobly done” and “Also in memory of those who fell in the war 1939-1945”. It was paid for by public subscription raised through the Worthing Gazette and unveiled on 11 April 1921.

Getting there

Chapel Road runs through the town centre, and the memorial stands in front of the Town Hall. No road closure notice for this year’s service had been published when we checked on 25 September. Any closures will appear on our Worthing roadworks and travel page, and car park prices are on parking in Worthing.

On Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November buses replace trains between Brighton and Worthing, so the line is shut on Remembrance Sunday itself (National Rail). If you are coming by train from the Brighton side on Remembrance Sunday, allow extra time.

The Poppy Appeal

The councils ask residents to support the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal by buying a poppy, donating or fundraising (Royal British Legion, Poppy Appeal).

Other events that week

Worthing Lions have confirmed their free fireworks display from the end of the pier for Thursday 5 November 2026 at 7.30pm (Worthing Lions); details are on our Worthing fireworks page.
